FAQ: AI Art, Licensing & Upload Rules

Answers on authorship, licenses, certificates, uploads, privacy, tiers, payments, and policies.

General

What is Lux et Ars?
Lux et Ars is a curated marketplace for AI-assisted artworks. Creators sell digital works and optional premium prints. We focus on provenance, quality, and clear rights.
How does buying and selling work?
Browse drops and editions, bid in auctions or buy instantly. Each sale issues a certificate of authenticity and updates provenance. For transfers/resales, use the built-in transfer so ownership stays traceable.
What are milestone levels?
Artists progress through levels based on uploads, sales, followers, and views. Your profile shows current progress toward the next level.

Licensing & authorship

What license models are available?
  • AAML (AI Artwork Master License) — for exclusive works with substantial human creative input and documented process. May include commercial rights and allows resale via platform transfer.
  • AI Art Data License — for pure AI images without substantial human input; grants usage rights (no copyright). No resale or sublicensing.
When am I the author of an AI artwork?
When you can demonstrate substantial, original human creative input (paintover, compositing, retouching, layout, manual iteration, etc.). Keep prompt history, edits, and intermediate renders and attach them to your listing.
Is AAML exclusive? Is each image sold only once?
Yes. AAML is exclusive. Each image is sold once; the buyer holds the single valid license. On resale, the license must be officially transferred and the previous owner’s rights end.
Can I resell my license? How does transfer work?
Yes—AAML permits resale with license transfer on the platform. Typical flow:
  1. From your account’s Licenses page, request a transfer to a recipient (username or email).
  2. We review the request and notify both parties.
  3. The recipient confirms; ownership updates and the certificate reflects the new holder.
External transfers are not supported.
Can buyers use artworks commercially?
Check the license on the listing. AAML may include commercial rights (scope is stated). AI Art Data License is typically personal/editorial with no resale or sublicensing.

Upload rules & quality

What info/files are required when uploading?
  • Title & description
  • Prompt history (key stages)
  • Editing steps (paintover, compositing, etc.)
  • Process images (screenshots/intermediates)
  • Tools used (names only)
More documentation → higher trust for exclusive licensing.
Do listings use watermarks or preview protection?
Preview images may contain watermarks and size limits. For collectors, high-resolution files and certificate details are provided after purchase.
Content policy (logos, identities, sensitive content)?
  • Logos & trademarks: Don’t upload protected logos/marks unless you own rights.
  • Identity & likeness: Respect privacy and personality rights; no deceptive portrayals.
  • Sensitive content: Follow local law and platform rules. Mature themes must be tasteful and flagged.

Collector profiles & privacy

What can I show on my collector profile?
You can share purchases publicly, add a display name, bio, avatar, and social links. By default, purchases are private.
Which privacy controls do I have?
Toggle per-purchase visibility (public/private), hide price, and optionally show a black-and-white preview. You can enable anonymous mode and hide your online status in settings.

Certificates & provenance

What is the certificate of authenticity?
Each sale issues a digitally signed certificate with a unique license ID, edition info, and owner. It forms the basis of provenance for art and bundles (digital + optional print).
How do I verify a certificate?
Use the verification tool to confirm the embedded data matches an existing purchase and license on the platform.

Prints, shipping & damage

Do you offer physical prints and bundles?
Yes—museum-quality giclée prints on archival media with edition markings. Bundles combine digital file, print, and certificate.
Who pays for printing and shipping?
The buyer covers printing and shipping for bundles/prints. You’ll receive tracking updates until delivery.
What if my print arrives damaged?
Photograph the item and packaging, then contact support within the stated window. We’ll arrange a replacement or next steps.

Buying, payments & payouts

Which payment methods are supported?
Secure card payments and account wallet operations. Availability can vary by region.
Do you offer refunds or cancellations?
Digital licenses are generally non-refundable once delivered. For prints, see the shipping & damage policy above. If there’s an issue with your file or certificate, contact support.
When do artists get paid?
Payouts follow a successful sale and standard checks. Timing may vary by method/region. See the Commission page for a calculator and details.
How are taxes handled?
Taxes depend on your location/status. Our example calculator on the Commission page uses a fixed 19% VAT (Germany). This is not tax advice.

Tiers, limits & fees

Do I need a paid tier to collect or sell?
Collectors can use Free. Creators can upgrade to reduce commission and unlock tools. Compare plans on Account Tiers.
What are the upload and auction limits?
Upload limits apply to Buy Now listings. Auctions have a separate limit and do not count against your monthly Buy Now quota. See the tiers table for exact numbers.
How do I upgrade, downgrade, or cancel renewal?
Manage your plan on Account Tiers. You can cancel renewal from the same page; your benefits continue until the current term ends.

Policies & legal

Do I need KYC/AML checks?
For higher purchase values or payouts, we may verify identity to comply with regulations. We handle personal data confidentially and only for compliance purposes.
Are my prompts and metadata public?
Listings may show selected process info to support provenance. Avoid sensitive personal data. See Privacy Policy.
Where can I read the full rules?

Account & support

How do I delete my account?
You can request self-deletion from your account settings after confirming your password. This removes your account and related personal data subject to legal retention requirements.
